Unable to budget for every possible market opportunity, the team identified direct mail as the most effective marketing method, along with web material. We did letter mailings to industrial designers, and created an informational website. We then identified likely application targets with the best potential to use the material and process and crafted special 3D direct response mailings that targeted prospects in advance of industry trade shows. Interestingly, the audience for the mailing was the other exhibitors at the show, and that became our long-range program...finding and reaching prospects in different industries at their most prominent shows. Our three-point contact system (advance calls, direct mail collateral, and post-show e-mail) gave a usually 9 month to a year sales cycle a boost, generating leads for the sales team often during the initial call. This program was designed to educate prospects and show them an application in their particular industry.
